Jammu, Mar 31 (KNO): Concerns over the deteriorating condition of the Sopore bypass bridge were raised in the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday, prompting the government to order a safety audit.
MLA Irshad Rasool Kar, as reported by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), highlighted the issue and sought immediate intervention, stressing that the bridge poses risks to commuters and requires urgent assessment.
Kar, who represents Sopore constituency, also sought a safety audit of the bridge.
Responding to the concerns, Deputy Chief Minister, who also holds the charge of the concerned department, assured the House that necessary directions will be issued for conducting a safety audit of the bridge.
It is noteworthy that the bridge is a vital link connecting the border district of Kupwara with Srinagar and serves as a key route for transportation to Asia’s second-largest fruit mandi in Sopore.
Locals and commuters have repeatedly flagged the poor condition of the structure, saying it has turned travel into a nightmare and raised fears over safety—(KNO)
